Organization and PurposeThe Macomb Food Program is a community non-profit organization (501-c-3) that is administered by the Macomb County Community Services Agency. The food program was started in 1975 in response to the increase of hunger among families and individuals in Macomb County affected by the economic recession. The Impact of a DonationA normal meal consists of approximately one pound of food per person. A $10 donation will provide almost 24 days of food (at three meals per day) for an individual. Demand for Services on the RiseIn fiscal year 2009, over 131,462 individuals requested emergency food. This represents a 44% increase in requests for emergency food over the previous fiscal year. How Can I get Involved?Volunteers are essential to the operation of the food program. In 2009, volunteers donated 74,916 hours of service to help feed the hungry in Macomb County.
